THE CHALLENGE
A major US automotive OEM makes extensive use
of lightweight composites materials.
They realized they might be able to shave off even more
weight and improve performance by replacing the
aluminum braces with a continuous-fiber composite if
they could find a material with an exceptional strength-
to-weight ratio, high flexural stiffness, good torsional
rigidity, and superior fatigue strength.
The composite material used to make
this part includes a custom-formulated thermoset
epoxy resin, which also has good corrosion and
chemical resistance.

THE CHALLENGE
Vibratory conveyors are frequently used to process
a variety of materials, from heavy duty powder and
bulk solids to delicate berries and potato chips.
Fiber reinforced composites are a popular material of
choice for reliable performance, providing high flexural
strength and excellent resistance to heat, moisture, and
chemical exposure.
Made in the USA
Avient’s Gordon Composites vibratory springs are
manufactured in Montrose, Colorado using materials
sourced from US suppliers.

EFFICIENCY
CASE STUDY: TRILLIANT™ HC SPECIALTY ENGINEERED MATERIALS
Challe
nge Accepted.
Avient
determined that the manufacturer required a material
with a unique combination of properties, including:
• Processing ease – high flow rate, ability to fill
multi-cavity molds, thin-wall capabilities
• Superior toughness – strength and durability to
ensure dimensional integrity of the part
• Repeatable performance – consistent conductivity
for accurate measurement of liquids
While several off-the-shelf compounds were evaluated,
a new formulation was developed to meet the
manufacturer’s specific needs as well as provide
signifi cant benefi ts in reduced cycle time, increased
production and reduced scrap rate.
THE IMPACT
For the manufacturer, Trilliant™ HC specialty engineered
materials provided a number of advantages that
contributed to the success of the new product line:
• Reduced Cycle Time: The high flow properties
of the Trilliant HC formulation allowed the
manufacturer to produce warp-free parts that
require less packing and cooling time, resulting
in a 40% cycle time reduction

These DBDPE-free grades satisfy regulatory
and performance demands by using an alternative
flame retardant while maintaining UL 44 compliance
and comparable performance to traditional Syncure
XLPE materials.
The development of these high-performing materials
grants wire and cable producers the flexibility to
adapt to evolving regulations in the market.

Cesa™ Flame Retardant Additives
PTFE-free and Non-halogen for Polycarbonate
Polycarbonate is a material of choice for E&E
products as it provides very good impact strength,
dimensional stability, and heat resistance.Some
applications require the use of flame-retardant
solutions to increase safety and ensure compliance
with fire hazard standards.
They
also offer the ability for producers seeking more
flexibility in managing plastic material inventory
to store large quantities of virgin or recycled resin
and order flame-retardant concentrates as needed
for individual projects.

Avient not only provided suitable
material, but also extended invaluable assistance to
ensure a successful transition.

by Frog Legs incorporate two Complēt long carbon
fiber-reinforced composite materials.
With an
aluminum hub, the dissimilar materials never fully bond
and can slip.
