S O C K E T
• A more sustainable, recycled formulation
• Similar performance to current virgin polyolefin including:
• Good UV, scratch, and impact resistance
• Reliable coloration to RAL 7011 and RAL 7035
• A matte finish
• Expedited the approval of Plastic Bank as a new supplier
• Formulated custom materials with recycled ocean-bound
plastic (Social Plastic®) from Plastic Bank
• Provided functional replacements for the previous virgin
polyolefins with comparable performance
• Enabled Hager to launch new cubyko leaf outdoor
sockets and switches to market containing 27% recycled
materials

THE IMPORTANCE OF PLASTICS FOR
PACKAGING
Compared to alternative materials, plastic is
one of the most sustainable materials available
for packaging applications.
These issues can lead to
“downcycling” of the material to a low-value
application.
Processing conditions can cause material properties to shift from the values stated in the information.

Aim for 75% of wall thickness
for a low-shrink material, and 50% of wall
thickness for a high-shrink material, with a draft
angle from ¼° to 1°.
In some filled plastic materials, through-holes
are best added in a post-process step.

For most plastic
materials, the runner size will be dependent
upon the flow characteristics of the material.
FOUR MAIN PLASTIC VARIABLES
Flow Rate
Plastics are a non-Newtonian fluid, therefore,
with a higher shear rate, the viscosity of the
material is reduced.
This rotation is shearing the material,
which is pulling and stretching the material
causing the plastic layers to flow past each other.

In addition to
color matching across different polymers, we can
also match in plastic the color of other materials
used in the appliance (e.g., painted parts) or in other
products to achieve a homogeneous look across all
product line items.
Sortable Black Colorants
Black plastic can be challenging to detect by infrared
sensors during the sorting process resulting in
the plastic being directed to waste instead of the
relevant recycled polymer stream.
Processing conditions can cause material properties to shift from the values stated in the information.

According to the American Chemistry Council, plastic components make up 50 percent of a vehicle’s volume, but only 10 percent of its weight.
Using Polystrand materials extended the life of truck trailers and reduced weight to improve fuel economy.
The solution increased loading per square foot and provided a moisture and debris barrier, and because they are thermoplastic, these CFRTP materials can be more easily recycled compared to alternative materials.
