SUZHOU, China – PolyOne today announced that its ColorMatrix™ Ultimate UV390 light blocking technology is now approved for use in PET packaging for food and beverage in China. Ultimate UV390 is compatible with PET materials and provides effective UV light blocking up to 395nm. It enables brands and packaging converters to enhance protection for UV-sensitive foods and beverages packaged in PET.

CLEVELAND – April 13, 2021 – As food and beverage brands increasingly seek to support a circular economy by using more recycled PET (rPET), several aesthetic and processing challenges inherent in rPET are also emerging. To help combat these issues, Avient today announced the launch of ColorMatrix™ Optica™ PET blue toners and colorants, which enable enhanced recyclability of PET packaging. Formulated for addition to virgin PET and recycled PET (rPET), heat-stable ColorMatrix Optica blue toners work to correct and reduce the yellowing or color variation that typically occurs during the recycling process.

This new product range offers low total inorganic and TiO2 content light-blocking solutions for PET dairy and dairy-alternative packaging.  The new range of Lactra additives helps to streamline this process, as they process well at similar conditions to virgin PET. Additional benefits include improved performance in thin wall sections, superior whiteness, and better processability with virgin PET grades and rPET.
